organized supplies!

last week, i tweeted about my disorganized supply shelf and asked how others organize their supplies. my organization was sort of NOT working anymore, so i needed to improve. 

behold, my supply shelf makeover! 

before: i TRIED to make everything fit in that old box. you can see how well that worked. and then there was a humidifier, heating pad, basket of medicines ... 

and this tiny little organization bin was shoved in the back, overflowing with lancets and a random knee support piled on top. awesome. clearly i change my lancets OFTEN. 

and with the help of a $7 wire shelf from target, we have ORGANIZATION!! (and more room for other things if i need it.)

food! (and blood sugar.)

my blood sugar has been pretty good as of late. except that random day last weekend when i stayed above 200. that sucked.

as i've said before, dexcom is such a great learning tool. as if i didn't know eating panera makes my blood sugar go up like crazy. or eating more than the serving size of cookies will sending me into triple digits i don't like. or that ice cream will send me up, but not for too long, and back down where i was. mmm, cupcakes ... game over. i've gotten better at the pizza thing. i ate pizza the other night and didn't go over 185. HOLLA!

notice a trend? i like carbs. and sweets. that's the biggest curse for a diabetic. loving sweets. craving bread. sigh. (have you SEEN my pinterest foods board?)

can we get hypnotized to not like sweets? that would be AWESOME. sign me up. well, i would like to enjoy birthday cake for myself though, so can i get hypnotized to not like sweets EXCEPT on my birthday?

wow, can you imagine how almost level my blood sugars might be if i took out all that stuff? ha. in my dreams.

(in other news, i changed my dexcom 'high' alert to 160. i'm trying to decide how i feel about that because i want to be alerted BEFORE i'm above 200. does that make sense?)

this weekend, i disconnected my dexcom for a fancy event (with glitter heels). i was a little worried at first, but every time i checked my bg, i was pretty good!

it's good to know that i can still keep this business under control without my continuous monitor. that's what 11 years experience will do to a girl.

...although, i do love knowing where i am and where i'm going, so i'll be reconnecting after work today.

FOOD (and pinterest)!

so, we all know how i feel about pinterest. (and if you don't, saying i love it is putting it lightly.) i have found some recipes to try, but usually they sit on my foods board and i don't do anything with them.

well, recently i acquired a larger crock pot than the one i have. i've made crock pot meals twice this week. first i made chili (no pinterest recipe), and yesterday i made hawaiian chicken. YUMS.

last night i also made cake batter rice crispy treats. also yums. and while there are tons (and i mean TONS, ask ashley) of delicious dessert ideas, as well as pasta and carb-loaded dishes, there are lots of healthy options too!

i have some healthy options pinned (the chicken wasn't too unhealthy, it was chicken and pineapple and sauce. that's it.), and i plan to try them out! i'm kind of stuck on the crock pot idea right now, it's so easy and much nicer when dinner's ready when you get home from work.

here's the rundown in case you don't understand pinterest. there are millions of 'pins' about all kinds of different topics that are found all over the web. you 'pin' something you find anywhere online so that all the ideas you find are in one place. people have different 'boards' so that all their ideas are organized into categories. for example, i have boards for food, crafts, home, style, funny stuff ... just to name a few. warning: it's addicting. so addicting, in fact, that i'm having a pinterest party with some of my friends! we're all making recipes we found on pinterest and sharing them with each other. i'm pretty excited (and yes i'll blog about it after the party)!

so if you need delicious recipe ideas (ya know, because there aren't 100 million recipe web sites), and you're not on pinterest, you should probably join. and just because there are a lot of crafty, pretty, girly things, doesn't mean there aren't some manly things too. hello, men like food. join!!
